Hey you guys! I’m excited to share the highlights from talking all things travel with Trumondia “Tru” Williams of Travel with Tru, LLC.

As it so happens, I met Tru a year before officially starting my business while I was traveling in the Dominican Republic for a vow renewal. She was the travel agent assisting our group during the trip. I’m always blown away when I think about how and when I met the people in my network. It is not lost on me that I always meet the right people and it’s always divine timing when I do. Tru has certifications and memberships with ASTA, IATA, and CLIA and specializes in international destination travel for individuals, groups, and families.

If you’re considering or currently planning a destination wedding or milestone celebration this blog post is for you!

Tru and I get into the details of why and when to use a travel agent in combination with your local planner and where the destination venue’s coordinator fits in to the equation. So, let’s dive in shall we!

Why Do I Need a Travel Agent When I Can Book Travel Myself?

It’s true that you can get online and spend hours combing the internet looking for the best travel deal -OR- hear me out, you could hand off this task to a knowledgeable industry professional, such as Travel with Tru, LLC, that can find the right fit for you and your guests.

Much like having a wedding planner, your travel agent eases the stress of planning travel. Their industry knowledge helps them to provide personalized options for the type of trip you want to experience. In addition, your travel agent will keep you and your guests informed about travel requirements and what to expect during your travel.

Certified travel agents keep you updated on changes and are your liaison for communicating with your travel suppliers, hotels, and airline companies. Their relationships with these vendors allow them direct access to troubleshoot should any issues arise during your trip.

How Far In Advance Can I Book Travel?

Tru recommends booking your travel as early as possible up to 330 days from the trip return date. Airlines will not allow travel bookings beyond this time frame.

Why Doesn’t My Wedding Planner Book The Travel For Me And My Guests?

Wedding and Events Planners wear many hats to pull off a successful wedding, but travel isn’t one of them. Your wedding planner is focused on the many moving parts of the event logistics and frankly don’t have the same level of travel industry knowledge that a travel agent does. When your wedding planner arrives on site, they will be corralling your vendors, wedding party, and venue staff, and making sure your day goes as planned, they won’t have time to troubleshoot any travel related issues that may arise. We love working with travel agents and work closely with them when we began building the day of timeline to ensure no details are missed.

Why Do I Need Wedding/Events Planner If The Venue Assigns A Wedding Coordinator?

Most destination resorts/venues have an inhouse wedding team that consists of a venue coordinator, caterer, bartender, and serving staff. This team will ensure you are provided everything the venue has promised you (chairs, tables, food, drinks, AC/heat, etc.). The venue coordinator will be present on your wedding day but in a capacity of ensuring the venue is functioning properly, the equipment you need is available and in working order, and that the venue staff is in attendance to service your event.

Your wedding planner ensures all wedding related elements are executed accordingly. Your wedding planner handles all the planning leading up to your wedding day and handles the logistics that goes into creating your wedding experience, such as design, coordinating vendors that are not offered by the venue, coordinating with the venue, facilitating the rehearsal, timeline management, guest experiences, and wedding weekend events. We ensure your special day reaches its full potential by creating a concept that becomes a meaningful, intentional and unforgettable experience for you and your guests.

Your travel agent will ensure all your travel arrangements are fulfilled by the resort/venue and will troubleshoot any travel related issues during the trip on your behalf.
