Wedding planning doesn’t have to be stressful. When you feel like things are spiraling out of control, ground yourself by remembering the main goal is to solidify the commitment you're making to each other. Listed below are do's and don'ts to keep your stress levels down and your excitement high while planning your wedding.

"When you feel like things are spiraling out of control, ground yourself by remembering the main goal"

1. DON’T Compete With Your Family Member or Friend’s Recent Wedding

Don't feel pressured to have an ice sculpture because your cousin Jenny just had one at hers. You and your true love are a unique couple and your wedding day should reflect who YOU are and the things you value most.

2. DO Make It Your Own

Want to skip the 5 course meal and opt for a family style meal? Do it! Refer to tip #1.

3. “Tradition Says I Have To”

…Let me STOP you right there. ONLY do the traditional things you and your partner WANT to do -OR- none at all…that’s ok too! Remember it’s YA’LLs day to make your own. See a pattern here?

4. DO Set Boundaries…With Everyone

Everyone will offer advice and may even try to sway you into their vision. Make it clear that you know what you want and have identified who will help you to get it accomplished. It’s ok to say “You’re too sweet. I’ve got it covered. Thank you so much for offering!”

5. DON’T Hire FRIENDORS To Do The Professional Stuff

Only hire skilled professionals that can show proof of their work and will provide a contract detailing how, what, when, and where they will perform the services. This is so important. You may think you’re saving money on the front end but it almost ALWAYS ends up costing you more on the backend.

6. DO Vet and Prioritize Your Guest List

Remember list immediate family and best friends first, then close family, then friends, coworkers, etc. when you need to make cuts start from the bottom of the list and work your way up. Remember, Cutting one person could save $$$+.

7. DON’T Skip Hiring a Planner or Coordinator

If you’re a type A planner go for it but remember you’ll still need coordination assistance leading up to and on your wedding day. If you don’t have one planning bone in your body you would be a good candidate for a full time planner. Either way, there are so many moving parts having the full or part-time help will enable you to enjoy your engagement and your wedding day.

The most important thing of all is you and your intended get to enjoy the process and not let it stress you out!
